The Ford Mondeo takes it's name from the Latin mundus, meaning "world", which is apt, because - now it's in its fourth generation - there can be few better-known family cars across the globe. In fact, the huge selection includes petrol, diesel and hybrid options, all offering good performance. And while their economy falls short of best-in-class, they all deliver respectable fuel consumption and emission levels. The best engine in the range, in terms of efficiency, is the 1.5 TDCi Duratorq, which delivers 78.5mpg with a CO2 emission level of only 94g/km. And that's not all. The Mondeo's pretty sleek these days, too. In an effort to shed the 'Mondeo Man' image that the car had a while back, Ford has given the car a more sophisticated, aerodynamic look, which features an arching roofline, lower suspension, honeycombe grille and tinted windows. All in all, today's Mondeo is a good mix of style, space and practicality.
