The BMW 1 Series, especially the five-door variant, is a great choice for small families that like a sleeker and stylish alternative to other cars such as the Vauxhall Astra and even Volkwagen's Golf. If you want to stand out even more then there's the convertible version that's been around since 2008.

Although the 1 Series is an entry level BMW it still carries that all important BMW badge. What this means is that you're getting a car with an undoubted excellent reputation.

I have to say we absolutely love our BMW 1 Series because it is the perfect size for me and my family, offers fantastic fuel economy, only Â£30 road tax and very low insurance. We originally looked at getting the M Sport, but the insurance was Double the SE Diesel version, the tax was higher and less. Read more
