In 2007 Volkswagen decided to have a go at building their first compact crossover. It was aimed at buyers who had active lifestyles and also appeal to families. What they came up with was the Tiguan and it soon became one of the most popular selling compact SUVs. Even though the Tiguan is a 4x4 don't expect it to make ease of tackling rough and rugged terrain. In fact like most crossovers it's much more suited to the road.The cabin is a nice place to be especially as you get a great view of the road due to the elevated sitting position. The interior is tidy, spacious and VW have used a wide array of quality materials throughout. You'll be able to fit four to five adults inside quite comfortably. Although the boot isn't the biggest in its class there's enough space there to fit your shopping bags and a pushchair and maybe a set of Golf Clubs!

For a car of its size the Tiguan is remarkably zippy in and around town. It also handles motorways well to. If you're going to be doing a lot of motorway miles then you may want to consider the popular 2.0 Litre TDi which produces a capable 138bhp or 168bhp depending on the version you get.

There are a wide variety of trims to choose from with the most common ones being the S, Match, Sport and Escape. There's also the sporty R Line and for those that want to venture off road then there's the Escape.

If it's a small, practical and good looking SUV you're after then a used Volkswagen Tiguan might just be the car for you.
